The Olympic Games have gotten the whole world in high spirits and people from all over have joined in on the buzz and backed the athletes all the way. Now it would seem there is more than a little romance going on in Rio. There have been six couples that have taken steps to make their union official. Here is a run down of the Olympic weddings and proposals.
Michael Phelps And Nicole Johnson
Legendary swimmer Michael Phelps made Nicole Johnson his fiancée back in February 2015. But seeing as he’s been busy training, they haven’t had time to tie the knot just yet. However, with the games out of the way, they are now able to get married. The couple are set to have a real splash with their big day, which will take place before the year is out.
Lizzie Armitstead And Philip Deignan
After coming under fire for a drugs scandal before the Olympics (which she has now been cleared of), British road cyclist Lizzie Armitstead now has a wedding to look forward to. Her and her fiancé Philip Deignan announced their engagement 11 months ago. The ceremony will be quite untraditional, with Armitstead herself saying that it will be a great opportunity for a big party.
He Zi And Qin Kai
Chinese diver Qin Kai wowed everyone when he popped the question to girlfriend and teammate He Zi during her medal ceremony where she won silver. It is one of two surprise proposals at Rio 2016.
Isadora Cerullo And Marjorie Enya
The Brazilian women’s rugby sevens team might have missed out on the Olympic title, but that didn’t stop one of the team from getting a different kind of bling. Isadora Cerullo was amazed by an on-pitch proposal (complete with heart shaped balloons!) by Marjorie Enya following the final of the tournament.
Tom Bosworth And Harry Dineley
Another Brit athlete, Tom Bosworth, also is going to be sending out invites after the games. He proposed to boyfriend Harry Dineley on Copacabana beach in Rio after beating his own personal best in the 20km race walk prior to the romantic display.
Charlotte Dujardin OBE And Dean Golding
Dressage competitor Charlotte Dujardin was showered with gold following her performance. She won a gold medal and received a marriage proposal from partner Dean Golding.
So there are your six Olympic athletes looking to tie the knot after the Games. And Rio 2016 still has a few days left before the closing ceremony, so is there a chance a few others could be whisked off their feet before the end of it all.
